We
live in an age of boasting. Most of this boasting comes
in the form of marketing and advertising. Businesses, organizations,
individuals all tout their product, program, or personnel
as the “best around.” While much of this marketing
makes us aware of valuable products and services, it can
also leave us bitterly disappointed or sometimes just plain
bitter. We have been promised much, but delivered little!
It
is tempting for me to boast about First Baptist Church of
Rockland. I love this church! I’m convinced that God
is at work among us in powerful ways. On our website you
will see a sampling of some of the ministry currently going
on. Yet, I must tell you that if you are looking for a “great
church” that will meet all your needs and perhaps
the needs of your family, you likely will be disappointed.
The truth is, in and of ourselves, we are a rather pitiful
bunch. (I know we’re not supposed to say such things
these days!) Worse yet, the Bible tells us and our experience
confirms that we are sin-full!
Our
sinfulness and brokenness is real, and this is why we dare
not boast in ourselves or in our church. Rather, it is our
joy and privilege to continually focus, dwell on, and boast
in our God and Savior Jesus Christ.
If
you are looking for a local church in which to worship,
fellowship, and minister, we eagerly invite you to consider
joining us, not because we are great, but because our God
is! It is our delight to see more and more people join us
in marveling at Him as He has shown Himself to us in His
Word.
